How to open an online bookstore in under 10 minutes
Not a 40-step WooCommerce tutorial. Claim a handle, list a title, get a link people can actually buy from.
I keep seeing the same Google search:
"how to start an online bookstore"
Then 4,000 words about business licenses, inventory software, and "build a brand on Instagram first."
Cool. Useless if you have books today.
The 10-minute version
1. Open a stand. Sign up at bookstand.app. You get a free handle: you.bookstand.app. That is your storefront URL. Not a waiting list.
2. List one book three ways if you need to. Digital (ebook / PDF / audiobook file). New print with ISBN lookup. Used with a condition grade. Same wizard. No plugin zoo.
3. Set how people get it. Digital goes through a signed reader link by default so files don't walk off. Print can ship, meetup, local delivery, or COD inquire. Marketplace if you want near-me buyers.
4. Share the link. Bio. QR. WhatsApp. Email list. You do not need a theme marketplace.
What you are not doing
- Paying $39/mo before sale one
- Teaching yourself Shopify liquid
- Hoping Amazon doesn't suspend you
- Posting "DM for price" on Facebook Marketplace forever
Who this is for
Indie authors who already wrote the book. Presses with a catalog. Bookshops that still run on foot traffic and a notebook. Students clearing a shelf before finals.
If you can photograph a cover and type a price, you can open a bookstore tonight.
Start free. Power-ups (website, custom domain, blog) when the catalog actually hurts without them.
